Chinchwad, 16th November 2024: During a campaign for Mahayuti’s candidate Shankar Jagtap from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the Chinchwad Constituency for the upcoming Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Elections, Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari visited Pimpri Chinchwad today. While speaking at the campaign, Gadkari accused Congress of altering the Constitution during the Emergency, allegedly in response to the Allahabad High Court stripping former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi of her MP status.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari was accompanied by Chinchwad MLA Ashwini Jagtap and MLCs Uma Khapare and Amit Gorakhe in the campaigning for Shankar Jagtap.
Speaking at the rally, Gadkari stated that the BJP would never alter the Constitution of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar and accused the Congress of changing it for their personal gain. He further accused Indira Gandhi of modifying the Constitution following the Allahabad High Court’s decision against her.
“After the Allahabad High Court annulled Indira Gandhi’s status as an MP, Congress imposed the Emergency. The Constitution of the country was defied and often changed for selfish reasons. The Janata Alliance government in 1977 reversed the Congress-mediated reforms. Those who have committed the sin of violating the Constitution are now holding it in their hands and spreading poisonous and malicious propaganda,” said Gadkari.
Speaking about Pimpri Chinchwad, Gadkari acknowledged the traffic congestion problem the city is facing but revealed that flyovers worth Rs 80,000 crore have been approved. He emphasised that the goal is to create a network of roads to ease congestion.
Gadkari further criticised Congress for its unfulfilled promises of removing poverty, claiming that the only poverty to disappear was that of Congress activists and leaders. He also stated that Congress’s policies had damaged the country. “India’s youth has the most potential, and with the right policies, it can become the best. So, choose wisely,” he said. “For 75 years of independence, Congress was in power everywhere but couldn’t eliminate poverty,” Gadkari added.
