Pune: 153 Persons Evacuated Due To Landslide Fear In Velhe Taluka
Pune, 27 July 2021: The district administration has relocated 37 families from Karnawadi village on the border of Velhe-Mahad taluka to prevent a recurrence of the tragedy caused by the landslide at Taliye village in Mahad, Manoj Pawar, Assistant Police Inspector, Velhe Police Station informed.
API Pawar said, “Karnawadi village is located on the border of Velhe and Mahad talukas. There is no other way to reach this secluded village except by crossing the Sahyadri by foot from Velhe taluka. The village received heavy rains in the last four days. On July 24, Tehsildar Shivaji Shinde, and Kelad’s Sarpanch Ramesh Shinde visited the village and instructed the villagers to evacuate. But people were not ready to relocte.”
After receiving information about a large part of the Sahyadri hill collapsed at around 1.30 pm on July 25, some utensils fell in the houses, people came out of the houses to notice the destruction. Tehsildar Shivaji Shinde, Assistant Police Inspector Pawar, Block Development Officer Vishal Shinde, Panchayat Samiti Chairman Dinkar Dharpale, Taluka Congress President Nana Raut, Kelad village Sarpanch Ramesh Shinde, Talathi, Circle officer, Gramsevak visited the village on July 26. There were cracks in the land as well as some homes.
Accordingly, all the people in the village have been evacuated as a precautionary measure following the meteorological department’s prediction of heavy rains.
32 families with 130 people are relocated in Ranwadi in Mahad taluka, six persons from two families are have been shifted to Birwadi in Mahad taluka, a family with three persons in Shivtharghal in Mahad taluka, a family with nine persons in Nigde Khurd in Velhe taluka and one family with five members are in Kelad in Velhe taluka. A total of 37 families with 153 people have been relocated. They are accommodated in various places like schools, temples, relative’s homes, etc., and given meals, said API Pawar.
He also informed that the road from Karnawadi to Ranwadi has been repaired with the help of JCB.
