Pune: 17-Year-Old Worker Dies After Getting Trapped In Stone Crusher At Lonikand
Pune, 29th September 2026: A 17-year-old worker died after getting trapped in a stone-crushing machine at a stone crusher unit in Lonikand on the Pune-Ahilyanagar road, police said.
Lonikand police have registered a case against three contractors associated with Sai Ram Stone Crusher for allegedly employing a minor for hazardous work and failing to provide the required safety equipment.
The deceased has been identified as Prince Vijaysingh Dhurve (17). The case was registered following a complaint by police constable Ajit Kunhe against contractors Dilip Sambhaji Shilimkar (40), Satyajit Ashok Jana (35), both residents of Wagholi, and Amit Bhagwan Akolkar of Ravet.
According to police, Dhurve was originally from Bijorigaon in Dindori, Madhya Pradesh, and had been working at the Lonikand stone crusher for around two months.
Police said their investigation found that Dhurve, despite being a minor, was allegedly made to perform hazardous work at the unit.
On September 12 around 2pm, Dhurve became trapped in the stone-crushing machine and sustained serious injuries. He was rushed to a hospital but died before treatment could begin.
After the hospital informed police, officers inspected the site. The investigation found that Dhurve had allegedly not been provided the necessary safety equipment at the workplace.
Assistant police inspector Vilas Mote is conducting the investigation.
