Pune: MSEDCL Orders Action Against Staff Hiring Unauthorised Persons For Electrical Work, Warns Of Dismissal
Pune, 29th September 2026: Employees of the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL) could face dismissal for getting hazardous electrical work done through private or unauthorised individuals instead of carrying it out through authorised personnel, the power utility has warned.
The warning covers works such as repairing power lines and transformers, reconnecting fuses, removing meters of consumers with outstanding bills and other electricity-related maintenance and recovery activities. MSEDCL has directed all regional offices to implement the order immediately.
Maintenance of the power supply network, attending to consumer complaints, replacing faulty transformers, reconnecting fuses, removing meters of defaulters and recovering electricity dues are the responsibility of authorised MSEDCL employees. These tasks involve significant electrical and safety risks.
However, several complaints had reached senior officials alleging that some employees were getting such work carried out through local private individuals or unauthorised persons.
Officials said such individuals may not have the necessary technical training or knowledge to handle electrical equipment. Working on electricity poles or transformers without appropriate safety equipment can result in serious accidents, including fatalities. It can also damage consumer equipment and company property.
Under electrical safety regulations, only authorised personnel are permitted to carry out such work, and engaging unauthorised persons is considered a violation of applicable rules.
Taking serious note of the issue, MSEDCL director Dhananjay Aundhekar has issued directions to senior officials to personally ensure that no electrical work in their respective areas is being carried out through private individuals.
If an employee is found to have engaged an unauthorised person for such work, or if an accident occurs as a result, an immediate inquiry will be conducted. MSEDCL said the employee would be dismissed from service if found guilty.
