Pimpri Chinchwad, 2nd January 2025: Irresponsible celebrations by citizens were observed in Pimpri Chinchwad as hundreds were caught drunk driving on New Year’s Eve and the week following Christmas. The Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissionerate’s (PCPC) Traffic Branch had deployed personnel throughout the city, and a total of 225 drunk driving cases were recorded on the night of December 31st alone.

While almost 800 cases of drunk driving were reported in December, 75% of these cases occurred in the last week, i.e., the post-Christmas period only.

A large number of police personnel were deployed by the Pimpri Chinchwad Police to prevent any misconduct during New Year’s Eve. Although irresponsible drivers were caught drunk driving, the total number of 225 drunk drivers across the city was lower compared to last year’s 322.

In the last week of December, particularly from Christmas onwards, a total of 644 people were caught driving drunk, while the whole of December saw 799 people engaged in drunk driving. Throughout the year, 4,641 people were caught drunk driving.

The Pimpri Chinchwad Police reported that restaurants and hotels were cooperative in celebrating the New Year within the designated time limits.
