Pune: 24-Hour CNG Supply Begins at Daruwala Petrol Pump After Years of Delay
Pune, 21st October 2026: Compressed natural gas (CNG) supply has begun at Daruwala Petrol Pump in the Poolgate area of Pune after a direct pipeline connection was established from Maharashtra Natural Gas Limited’s (MNGL) depot in Shivajinagar. The facility is expected to provide round-the-clock CNG service to motorists.
The underground pipeline project, involving an investment of several crore rupees, took about a year to complete and faced several technical challenges. Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) and MNGL jointly worked to extend the pipeline to the petrol pump on Solapur Road.
According to Ali Daruwala, the petrol pump operator and former president of the All India Pune Petrol Dealers Association, the nine-inch pipeline will ensure a more consistent supply of CNG at adequate pressure. It is also expected to reduce long queues of vehicles and minimise supply disruptions during periods of low pressure, improving convenience for customers.
The project had been held up for nearly 13 years due to pending permissions from the Defence Ministry, Daruwala said.
Established in 1965, Daruwala Petrol Pump has been serving motorists in Pune for more than six decades. The commencement of direct pipeline-based CNG supply is expected to improve fuel availability at the outlet and reduce dependence on arrangements that may be affected by supply constraints.
