Pune: 25-Year-Old Dies in Balewadi-Mahalunge Road Crash; Mud, Dark Stretch Blamed for Accident
Balewadi, 3rd September 2026: A 25-year-old man died after his two-wheeler met with an accident on the Balewadi-Mahalunge road near Godrej Township on Wednesday night. Residents have raised concerns over mud covering the road and several streetlights reportedly remaining non-functional along the stretch.
The deceased, identified as Shrihari Anand, was riding from Balewadi towards Mahalunge village when the accident occurred at around 11.18 pm. Residents said the two-wheeler apparently lost traction after hitting a stretch covered with mud, causing the rider to fall.
According to residents, poor visibility due to the lack of functioning streetlights may have further increased the danger on the road. CCTV footage of the crash has also emerged and shows the incident.
The latest death has renewed concerns over road safety in the area. Residents said this is reportedly the second fatal accident involving a young person on the same stretch in the past two weeks.
Local residents have questioned the civic authorities and other agencies responsible for maintaining the road and streetlighting infrastructure. They alleged that despite the hazardous conditions, the mud has not been adequately cleared and faulty streetlights have remained unrepaired.
Residents are now demanding immediate removal of the accumulated mud, proper cleaning and maintenance of the road, and restoration of all non-functional streetlights.
They have also urged the authorities to inspect the entire stretch and undertake urgent safety measures, warning that failure to address the problems could result in more serious accidents, particularly during night hours.
