Pune: 250 guests attend marriage ceremony at Hyatt Regency, 2 dies of COVID, 25 others positive

Viman Nagar, August 11, 2020: An FIR has been registered against a wedding organiser as well as Hyatt Regency hotel event manager after about 250 guests attended a marriage ceremony there on June 30. Now it has been found that two guests have died due to Coronavirus disease (COVID19) while 25 others are also found infected.

Based on a complaint from social worker Anand Goyal, Yerwada police station has booked wedding organiser Kapil Rajesh Garg of Kondhwa and Hyatt’s event manager Vishal Tiwari of Vadgaonsheri. They have been charged for offence under section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by a public servant) of the Indian Penal Code.

According to police, as per lockdown order maximum of 50 guests were allowed at marriage ceremonies. However, about 250 guests attended the wedding at the hotel. The complainant told police that the hotel refused to show the CCTV footage saying that they were closed due to technical problem. The wedding organiser had submitted a list of 50 guests to the police but more people had attended the ceremony.
