Pune: 272 Drunk Drivers Penalised in Pimpri-Chinchwad on Holi, Over Rs 10 Lakh in Fines Collected

Pimpri-Chinchwad, 15th March 2025: The Pimpri-Chinchwad Police’s Traffic Branch took action against 272 drunk drivers and 923 two-wheeler riders travelling triple-seat on Holi. The crackdown, conducted across 25 locations, resulted in fines exceeding Rs 10 lakh, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Bapu Bangar.

Authorities had warned against drink-driving ahead of the festival, deploying a heavy police presence to prevent any untoward incidents. The special drive, which began at midnight on 13th March, covered key areas such as Sangvi, Talawade, Dehu Road, Talegaon, Ravet, Hinjawadi, Wakad, Bhosari, and Chinchwad.

DCP Bapu Bangar told Punekar News that breathalysers were used to test drivers, confirming alcohol consumption in 272 cases. Legal proceedings have been initiated, and further action, including fines or licence suspension, will be determined by the court. Meanwhile, those caught riding triple-seat on two-wheelers were also penalised.
