Pune, November 1, 2020: Three persons including an Army Jawan who is a clerk from the Army’s Zonal Recruitment Office, Pune, has been arrested by the Crime Branch of Pune city police in a fake Army recruitment racket, based on specific input given by the Military Intelligence (MI). The accused persons had promised to help the candidates get recruited in the Army in lieu of Rs 1.5 lakh each from 17 candidates.

The arrested persons have been identified as Havaldar clerk Jaidev Singh Parihar and civilian agents Vain Singh Lal Singh Rawat and Ravindra Gajendra Singh Rathod, both natives of Rajasthan. Based on a complaint from one of the aspirants, an FIR has been registered against them at Wanowrie police station for offences under sections 420 (cheating) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

“A total of 13 original school documents, admit cards were recovered from their possession. The accused had duped around 30 candidates in two batches, promising them of assured selection in the army in lieu of Rs 3-4 lakhs each where the Army persons were getting their share from the tout”, an officer told Punekar News.

According to officials, the Army had advertised about the recruitment in January 2020. After completing the formalities, the physical test of the candidates was held in Beed in February 2020. The candidates who passed the physical test had appeared for the written exam, Common Entrance Exam (CEE), today at the Army Institute of Physical Test (AIPT) ground on Pune-Solapur road in Wanowrie.

However, the Military Intelligence (MI) had received information about some persons taking money from candidates under the false promise of helping them get recruited in the Army. Accordingly, MI contacted DCP (Crime Branch) Bachchan Singh who assigned the task to Crime Branch Units 2 and 5 to arrest the accused persons. Joint teams of the Crime Branch and MI were formed which nabbed the three persons.

“During interrogation, we learnt that the accused Parihar approached the candidates who passed the physical test and had come to the Army’s Zonal Recruiting Office, Camp, for collecting their hall tickets for the written exam. Parihar, who is a clerk at the recruiting office, lured some of the candidates and asked them to get some training at private institutes as they have contacts with senior Army officials who can help them get recruited in lieu of money. Parihar introduced the candidates to Rathod and Rawat. They had taken original documents of the candidates and had promised to give them back after getting money when they are selected”, said DCP Singh.

Police Inspector Mahendra Jagtap of Crime Branch Unit 2 said, “The accused persons had got a building in Lohegaon, where Rathod used to tutor the candidates about the written exam. He had given fake question papers to candidates claiming they were the genuine papers.”

Police have appealed candidates to contact local police station, control room or senior police officers if anybody demands money for recruitment exams.
