Pune: 30 PMPML Depots To Undergo A Change
Pune, 29 June 2021: Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) has decided to renovate 30 depots. The proposal to develop these depots was taken during the board meeting held recently. An estimated cost of Rs11,666 crore is budgeted for it.
These depots will have workshops along with the parking facility for the buses. The upper floors will have hospitals, hotels, and offices.
VK Associates have conducted a survey before taking up the project. The survey report found out that the depots can be developed according to the areas they belong to.
Currently, PMPML has 13 depots of which four are reserved for electric buses.
The firm has estimated a profit of Rs1516 crore per annum for PMPML once the depots are developed. As the depots along with having facilities for buses will also have commercial offices, hotels, hospitals, etc.
Meanwhile, PMPML is facing an acute financial crunch. Similarly, it is not in a position to take a loan from the banks, thus the development of the depot will be done on Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model or by leasing out the property.
Rajendra Jagtap, managing director and president, PMPML said, “there are 17 depots and 13 open spaces under PMPML. The decision to develop these places will be taken during the board meeting”.
