Pune: 3,000 Employees Of PCMC On Strike; Work Stopped

Pimpri, 14th March 2023: Government employees have gone on strike for various demands, including the old pension scheme. About 3,152 employees of Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) have gone on strike too. As a result, the work of the municipal corporation has come to a standstill. Additional commissioners and senior officials had to come to the municipal corporation in their vehicles.

Under the leadership of Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Employees Federation President Shashikant Zinjurde, all the employees gathered in front of the main entrance of the Municipal Corporation. ‘A Single Mission Old Pension’, such caps are worn by employees. 3,152 employees have gone on strike. Drivers also participated in the strike. The entire functioning of the municipal corporation has come to a standstill.

More than 7,000 employees work in the municipal corporation from class one to class four. However, after 2005, 3,152 employees joined the municipal service. An old pension scheme should be applied to all these employees – this is the demand.

Demands:

Long-term contract workers should be regularized in service by paying them equal pay, vacancies in Municipal Corporation should be filled, children of employees who died during the coronavirus should be accommodated in the service with age relaxation, various allowances should be implemented on the lines of Central Government, category IV posts should not be abolished, in-service issues of teaching and non-teaching staff should be resolved immediately, the retirement age should be 60, and the financial and service rules issues of the nurses and the Health Department staff should be resolved.
