The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has closed the roads leading to the river, urging people not to go into the water.
The discharge from Khadakwasla Dam into the Mutha River has been increased to 22,000 cusecs at 12.00 pm. All four dams Panshet, Varasgaon, Temghar and Khadakwasla in the Khadakwasla dam chain which supplies water to Pune city and district are full. Currently, it is raining in the catchment area of these dams and also, and water is being discharged from the Khadakwasla dam into the Mutha river due to increased water inflow due to rainfall at the top of the ghat areas.
It has been increased to 15,211 cusecs at 9.00 am today. After that at 12.00 pm, this discharge has been done up to 22,000. But due to continuous rain in the Khadakwasla dam project, now 30,000 cusecs of water have been released into the Mutha river at one hour.
Farmers and citizens along the river have been warned to be alert as the discharge has increased.
The Irrigation Department has predicted that 20,000-25,000 cusecs of water will be released into the river at around 1.00 pm as the rain has increased since 7.00 am.
While on one hand a large amount of water is flowing into the Mutha river, on the other hand, water is also being released into the Mula river from Mulshi and Pavana dams. The water of the Mula and Mutha rivers will meet at Sangamwadi, so there is a possibility of flood in the Bundagarden, and Yerwada areas as well. Hence, citizens are advised not to go near the riverbed by PMC.
