Pune, 15th June 2021: The city is gearing up for the monsoon, to avoid a flood-like situation. The roads, sanitation and drainage system are being reviewed and repaired for the monsoon.

Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) along with Pune Smart City Development Corporation Limited (PSCDCL) has developed an alert system to track down floods and extreme weather conditions.

The meteorological department with the help of the system based on sensor height can calculate the water level and alerts will be sent. The alert system will have two categories- alert and danger. So far the 35 sensors have been deployed at rivers, bridges and sensitive places to avoid the danger caused by the continuous rain. These alert signals will be directly coordinated by the PMC disaster management team.

Ganesh Sonune, head of PMC disaster management cell said, “Flood sensor data is a great boon for the disaster management team to map out action plans beforehand. The data will also help to analyze the situation in advance.”

In 2019 many flood-related destructions were reported in the city therefore the PMC along with PSCDCL joined hands to tackle any such situation more efficiently with the help of the flood monitoring sensor system.
