Pune: 35 People Cheated Of Rs 200 Crore With False Promise Of High Interest On Investment

Pune, January 9, 2021: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Pune police crime branch arrested a person who defrauded 35 citizens for around Rs 200 crore. He had defrauded people on the pretext to invest and get high-interest rates from 18 to 25 per cent.

The arrested person has been identified as Pankaj Chhallani, a resident of Mukund Nagar, Pune. He lured many into the trap of offering large returns on investment. After a few days of refunds, he stopped paying. So far, the EOW has received 35 complaints in this regard. One person has invested between Rs 25 lakh and Rs 5 crore. Chhallani is said to be a businessman and a case of fraud has been registered against him at Dattawadi police station in the past.

A case has been registered against Chhallani at Swargate police station on a complaint lodged by Richard Anchi (58), resident of Bhosale Nagar.

Pune Police have appealed people to approach the EOW if they have been cheated in the similar manner.
