Pune: 35,000+ DSK Depositors Await Justice as Bombay HC Sets 3-Month Deadline
Pune, 11th August 2026: The Bombay High Court has directed the special Maharashtra Protection of Interest of Depositors (MPID) court to decide within three months an application filed by the state government in the case involving builder Deepak Sakharam Kulkarni, popularly known as DSK.
A division bench of Justice Kamal Khata and Justice A.S. Gadkari passed the order while hearing a criminal writ petition filed by depositors through their lawyer, advocate Chandrakant Bidkar.
The petition was filed in June 2020. In September 2021, the High Court had directed the MPID court to submit a report on the case, which was then pending before the Additional Sessions Court in Pune. The case was subsequently transferred from Pune to the special MPID court in Mumbai in 2022.
The petitioners themselves are among the depositors affected by the case. The High Court noted that several depositors have been waiting for years in the hope of recovering at least part of the money they had invested in schemes operated by the accused.
More than 35,000 depositors were allegedly cheated of crores of rupees in the case. More than 200 depositors have reportedly died while waiting for the case to reach a conclusion.
The High Court has now directed the special MPID court to take a decision on the state government’s application within three months, potentially paving the way for further proceedings in the long-pending case.
