Understanding mathematics through stories: ‘The Secret Life of Functions’ Book Launched in Pune
Pune, 10th August 2026: The book “The Secret Life of Functions..How Math shapes the life around us”, authored by Dr. Beena Limkar and published by Seagull Publications was launched at the program held at the K. B. Joshi Auditorium of Karve Shikshan Sanstha in the presence of senior author and researcher Dr. Achyut Godbole, senior educationist Dr. Vinay Vaidya, Vice Chairman of Maharshi Karve Stree Shikshan Sanstha Dr. Anand Lele, Principal Vrushali Sahasrabuddhe, and the author Dr. Beena Limkar.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Achyut Godbole said that mathematics need not always be seen as a difficult subject. “Mathematics is not just about logic and complexity. When presented in the right way, it can be engaging, creative and even enjoyable,” he said.
Praising the book, he noted that Limkar has simplified complex mathematical ideas without compromising on accuracy, making them accessible to a wide audience from school students to engineering graduates. He added that such writing could help reduce students fear of mathematics and build genuine interest in the subject.
Sharing her thoughts, Dr. Beena Limkar spoke about her journey with mathematics and the inspiration behind the book. “Mathematics is the foundation of many disciplines. If the basics are strong, learning becomes easier,” she said. She also described functions as an important and expressive part of mathematics.
