Pune, 27th May 2026: Divisional Commissioner Sheetal Teli-Ugale has disqualified 40 candidates — including 22 who had contested the Pune Municipal Corporation elections — from contesting polls for the next three years for failing to submit their election expenditure statements within the stipulated period after the recent local body elections in Pune division.

The action, effective from May 26, 2026, has been taken against 22 candidates from the Pune Municipal Corporation elections, 15 candidates from Pandharpur Municipal Council and three candidates from Akkalkot Municipal Council.

According to the administration, the candidates failed to submit their election expense accounts within 30 days as mandated under the provisions of the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act and the Maharashtra Municipal Councils, Nagar Panchayats and Industrial Townships Act, 1965.

The State Election Commission had conducted general elections for 60 municipal councils and nagar panchayats in the Pune division on December 2, 2025, while elections for six municipal corporations were held on January 14, 2026.

Officials said hearings were conducted on May 5 and May 25 before the divisional commissioner following proposals submitted by the Pune Municipal Commissioner and Solapur Collector. However, as the candidates failed to provide satisfactory explanations during the hearings, orders were issued declaring them ineligible to contest elections for three years.

The list of disqualified candidates has been made available at the offices of the respective district collectors and local self-government bodies, officials said.
