Pune, 27th May 2026: Pune Municipal Corporation has imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on a builder for allegedly releasing construction-site wastewater directly into a stormwater drainage chamber in the Raviwar Peth area.

According to the official statement issued by the civic body’s Kasba-Vishrambaug ward office, the action was taken against contractor Vishal Jain, after officials found that wastewater from an under-construction project near Sevan Love Chowk and Phuge Pen Shop was being discharged into the stormwater drainage network.

PMC officials said a complaint regarding the issue was received by the concerned department, following which a team conducted an on-site inspection. During the inspection, it was found that wastewater from the construction site was allegedly being released into the stormwater chamber through unauthorised means.

The civic administration said such discharge of slurry, debris and untreated wastewater into stormwater lines can choke drains and worsen waterlogging during the monsoon season.

Following the inspection, the ward office imposed a penalty of Rs 25,000 on the contractor and builder for violating environmental and civic norms. PMC has also warned of stricter legal and criminal action if similar violations are repeated.

The civic body appealed to developers and citizens not to release construction waste or any other wastewater into stormwater drains, stating that such practices place additional pressure on the city’s drainage infrastructure during the rainy season.
