Reported by Varad Bhatkhande
Pimpri Chinchwad, 27th June 2025: In a groundbreaking move, Pimpri Chinchwad police have successfully taken action against five unauthorized loan apps on the Google Play Store that were defrauding students and citizens by offering fraudulent loans. The action, led by the cyber police station under Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissionerate, has helped prevent potential losses worth crores of rupees across the country.
According to police reports, a series of complaints were recently received regarding people being duped by these apps. Upon investigation, Pimpri Chinchwad police identified that several of these scam apps were readily available on the Play Store. Further inquiry revealed that these apps were not registered or monitored by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) or the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), raising serious concerns over their legality and operations.
Based on information gathered during interrogations with complainants, the police acted swiftly. Senior Police Inspector Ravikiran Nale and his team initiated continuous communication with Google to ensure the takedown of five fraudulent apps: ‘Credit Lens’, ‘Racpmta’, ‘RPMTA’, ‘Credit Pilot’, and ‘Reba Cash’.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Dr. Shivaji Pawar stated, “Along with these five, we have requested Google to remove four additional apps. Communication regarding their removal is ongoing.” These additional apps include ‘KeeCredit: Financial Assistance’, ‘SC Elite VIP’, ‘LumainMax’, and ‘Exconversion’.
The police have urged citizens to remain cautious while availing online financial services and to use only RBI-registered platforms to avoid falling victim to such scams.
