Pune, May 21, 2020: A video clip of an elderly woman has gone viral; she is seen holding a stick in her hand, laughing and dancing. This video has spread joy on social media. The woman has diabetes and arthritis as well; she was tested COVID-19 positive and has been discharged after 19 days of treatment at Aundh Civil Hospital.

She is a resident of Mangalwar Peth, who was admitted at the Sassoon Hospital. Later due to space issues she was shifted to Aundh Civil Hospital. “This woman has arthritis, diabetes and faced breathlessness due to lack of oxygen supply in her body. She was also tested positive for COVID-19, but when she recovered, nothing could stop her from dancing on her feet”, said Dr Sharmila Gaikwad, one of the doctors who treated her, reported The Indian Express newspaper.

As the staff clapped and applauded her for recovering when she was being discharged, the woman remarked that it is only because of the medical team that she has survived. She added, “I thought I wouldn’t live, Thanks to you, I can never forget what you all did for me.”

District collector Naval Kishore Ram said that he has seen such a video for the first time in Pune. This shows one should be confident, positive and should not fear the disease, he said.

This shows remaining confident and being truly positive can cure half of the illness or at least gives the determination to fight with the disease. “Almost every positive patient is worried a lot, and determination is the only way to overcome an ailment”, summed medical officer Dr Prakash Rokde.
