Pune: 71-Year-Old Woman Killed For Resisting Rape; Accused Later Raped Her Dead Body

Chakan, 25th May 2021: In a heinous act, a 71-year-old woman was killed for resisting a rape attempt. Police have arrested a 52-year-old suspect who has confessed to having murdered the woman and raped her dead body, said Pimpri Chinchwad police in a statement.

The Chakan police station team nabbed the accused within 4-5 hours after the incident was reported.

On Monday, PSI Vikas Panchmukh of Pait police outpost received information about the murder at Kurkundi village in Khed taluka of Pune district over a phone call. The deceased woman, who lived alone in her house, was found dead in a pool of blood. Her other family members resided at a distance in the same village.

Considering the serious nature of this crime, Senior Police Inspector Ashok Rajput, Inspector (Crime) Anil Devade, Detection Branch (DB) PSI Vijay Jagdale and his staff immediately rushed to the spot and inspected the crime scene. Senior police officers including DCP (Zone 1) Manchak Ipper and ACP Prerna Katte also visited the spot. Police said that the incident took place between 8 pm and 9.30 pm on Monday.

The officials from the forensic team including fingerprint experts, sniffer dogs thoroughly inspected the spot. The Chakan police scanned the village for the suspects. Soon, Anil Sudam Waghmare (52), a resident of the same village, was detained. He worked with a private company, according to police.

DCP Ipper said, “During interrogation, the accused has confessed to the crime. He was taken into custody within hours of the crime. Waghmare broke into the house and tried to rape the deceased. When she resisted, the accused hit her on the head with an iron blower (fukni) kept near the chulha, seriously injuring, and killing her. An investigation has revealed that she was raped after her death. We received valuable help from the sniffer dog, Jack, to detect this crime.”

Based on a complaint from the daughter-in-law of the deceased, an FIR has been registered against the accused at Chakan police station for offences 302 (murder), 376 (rape), and 450 (house-trespass) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

“A judicial magistrate court has remanded the accused to four days of police custody. Further investigation is going on”, said Inspector Devade, who is investigating the case.

The investigation team included PSI Priyanka Salunkhe and police personnel Suresh Hinge, Deepak Hande, Sandeep Sonawane, Hanumant Kamble, Datta Birajdar, Shashikant Hole, Kiran Manjare, Nikhil Warpe, Pradip Rale, Nitin Gunjal, Ashok Divate, and Supriya Dhumal.
