Pune, July 5, 2021: The city, which is considered an educational hub and a centre for preparation for competitive exams, was shaken by the suicide of a Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) candidate.

Twenty-four-year-old Swapnil Lonkar, an MPSC candidate preparing for competitive exams, died by suicide by hanging himself after not getting a job.

Even after passing the Pre and Main exams of MPSC, there was no interview for the last two years leading Swapnil into depression gradually. During the period, financial problems and loans increased his stress and eventually he ran out of patience and took the extreme step. Like Swapnil, many MPSC aspirants are yet to get jobs after passing the exams two years ago.

“Maharashtra State government is solely responsible for the death of Swapnil Lonkar. The government should complete the MPSC recruitment process immediately or we will hold intense protests at various chowks (squares) in Pune city,” stated ABVP Pune Mahanagar Mantri Shubham Bhutkar.
