Narhe, 2nd May 2026: A 55-year-old man died and two others were seriously injured after a car rammed into a container on the Mumbai–Bengaluru bypass road near the new Katraj tunnel.

The deceased has been identified as Raghunath Maruti Ghare, a resident of Koparkhairane in Navi Mumbai. The injured include his relatives, Sanjay Chalke and a minor girl, Gatha, who are undergoing treatment at a hospital.

According to police, the incident occurred on Thursday (April 30) afternoon when Rohit Raghunath Ghare (25), along with his father Raghunath, relative Sanjay Chalke, and niece Gatha, were travelling on the bypass road. Near the Katraj tunnel, a speeding container allegedly changed lanes abruptly without indicating, following which the car crashed into its side.

Based on a complaint filed by Rohit Ghare at the Ambegaon police station, a case has been registered against the container driver, who has been taken into custody. The complaint states that the accident occurred due to the driver’s negligence.

Senior Police Inspector Sharad Zhine visited the accident site, and Police Sub-Inspector Laxman Doifode is conducting further investigation.
Police officials said several serious accidents have occurred on the bypass road in the past, mainly due to overspeeding and driver negligence. They reiterated that strict speed limits are in place, and failure to adhere to them often leads to fatal accidents.
