Pune: Account Officer of Education Department Caught Accepting Bribes
Pune, 21st February 2023: The Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) caught the Accountant of the Education Department, Pramila Prabhakarrao Giri (38), accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 for verifying pay fixation in a teacher’s service book. The incident took place on Monday (20th February) at the Education Department office located in Synagogue Street, Camp area. During the raid, the ACB found Rs 60,000 in cash in Giri’s desk drawer.
Along with Giri, action has also been taken against Junior Auditor Anil Sridhar Londhe. According to the ACB, after the completion of a teacher’s training, the service books must be registered for the selected category, and the Accounts Officer’s signature and stamp are necessary for pay fixation as per the 6th and 7th Pay Commission. However, Giri demanded a bribe to carry out this entry, which a teacher reported to the ACB. After verifying the complaint, the ACB laid a trap, leading to the arrest of both Giri and Londhe.
An FIR has been registered against the two at Lashkar police station and further investigation is underway.
