Pune: ACP Of Pimpri Chinchwad Police Under Scanner After Driver Caught Demanding Rs 5 Lakh Bribe

Pune, 18th February 2024: The sleuths from the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Pune, have arrested a driver who allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs five lakh on behalf of an Assistant Commissioner of Police under Pimpri Chinchwad Police for not registering a cheating case against a man in a land dispute case.

 

There was a complaint of fraud against the 32-year-old complainant in relation to a plot along Katraj Bypass Road. ACP (Dehu Road Division) Mugutlal Patil is conducting an inquiry into the matter.

 

According to the ACB, accused Omkar Jadhav (32), a driver who hails from Ahmednagar district and resides in Wakad, demanded Rs five lakh from the complainant allegedly on the instructions of ACP Patil, for not registering an FIR for an offence under section 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

 

The bribe demand was verified three times on 15th, 16th, and 17th February. Jadhav always demanded a bribe of Rs 5,00,000 for ACP Patil and accepted the bribe amount of Rs 1,00,000 as the first instalment of the bribe on 17th February (Saturday) in the parking area of Jahangir Hospital, Pune.

 

Accordingly, an FIR has been registered against Jadhav at Koregaon Police station, Pune City Police, for offences under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

 

An officer told Punekar News, “Till now, only the private person has been booked. The ACP is being investigated.”

 

Superintendent of Police (ACB, Pune range) Amol Tambe has appealed to the citizens to contact ACB immediately if any government officer/employee demands a bribe other than a fee for doing any government work. The toll-free number of the anti-corruption bureau is 1064.
