Pune: Action Against Washing Centres Using Drinking Water To Wash Vehicles

Pimpri, 12th May 2023: In the backdrop of summer, a survey of washing centers has been conducted through the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation’s (PCMC) Water Supply Department. In this survey, as many as 387 washing centers have been found in the city, in which PCMC broke the tap connection of 36 centers. 39 centers are unauthorized and all these center operators will be charged water tax.

The city has been getting water supply on alternative days for the past 3.5 years. As soon as the summer started, there were increasing complaints of insufficient and low-pressure water supply in various parts of the city. Therefore, the Municipal Corporation warned that strict action will be taken if drinking water is used in washing centers, parks, or for washing cars.

Another survey of the washing center in the city was conducted by the Water Supply Department. The survey found that there are 387 centers in different parts of the city. In this, 38 washing center operators have taken commercial licenses for water consumption. 290 center drivers are dependent on borewell, and well water. 39 centers have been found to be unauthorized and the tap connection of 36 people has been cut.

“Water tax will be collected along with fines from such center operators. A criminal case will be filed against them.” Also, Additional Commissioner Jambhale-Patil informed that action will be taken against municipal meter inspectors who ignore such washing center operators.
