Pune: Action Likely Against 1,224 Ganesh Mandals Over Noise Violations

Pune, 29th September 2026: Despite Pune police enforcing the ‘four bass, four top’ formula to control noise levels during Ganesh immersion processions, several mandals allegedly exceeded the prescribed limits, prompting the police to initiate action based on sound-level readings.

Police recorded noise levels of loudspeakers and dhol-tasha groups associated with 1,224 Ganesh mandals during immersion processions on September 25 and 26. The readings are currently being analysed, and action will be initiated against mandals found to have violated prescribed noise limits.

Ahead of the festival, police had restricted the number of speakers and imposed limits on sound levels. The use of pressure mids and plasma speakers was also prohibited. However, loud DJs, sound systems and dhol-tasha performances were reported at several locations during the immersion processions.

Police commissioner Amitesh Kumar has authorised deputy commissioners of police (DCPs) in the respective zones to initiate action against mandals found violating noise norms. Notices to the concerned mandals have already started being issued.

Depending on the findings, police may initiate proceedings under relevant rules and register cases where necessary.
