Pune, 31st October 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has blacklisted contractor M/s Shubham Ashok Khatode, barring him from undertaking any future civic works across all departments, including roads, buildings, sewage and water supply, following the death of a senior citizen in an accident at an excavation site in Yerawada.

The action was taken after the contractor’s response to a show-cause notice and a hearing before the municipal commissioner on October 26 were found unsatisfactory. The blacklisting was ordered by the commissioner.

The contractor had been assigned work to replace old and inadequate sewage lines with larger-diameter pipelines under the Kalyani Nagar Sewerage District (SD-12).

On October 17, an autorickshaw rammed into an open pit dug for the sewer line work near Chitra Theatre in Yerawada. The vehicle fell into the excavation, resulting in the death of Pradeep Laxman Pardeshi (69), a resident of Kharadi.

Following the incident, the civic body issued a show-cause notice to the contractor seeking an explanation. However, officials were not satisfied with the reply or the contractor’s submissions during the hearing, leading to the blacklisting action.
