Pune, 31st October 2026: Developers will have to ensure water supply to new buildings in the 32 villages merged into the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) limits for at least three years after occupation or until the civic body begins its own supply, whichever is later.

The PMC has revised its undertaking to make developers accountable for arranging water and bearing the cost, offering potential relief to housing societies that currently spend lakhs of rupees on private tankers.

Under the earlier undertaking introduced in 2026, developers could transfer the responsibility to housing societies once they were formed and commercial units began operations. This left residents dependent on tankers despite their areas being brought under the civic body’s jurisdiction.

The revised conditions make developers responsible for arranging water through borewells, tankers and temporary storage tanks. They will have to bear the cost and remain accountable through the stages of building permission, completion certificate and occupancy certificate.

Developers must also disclose the existing water supply arrangements and their obligations in sale deeds, allotment letters and society registration documents. Water supplied through tankers and borewells will have to undergo periodic laboratory testing.

Violations could invite fines, suspension of permissions, restrictions on fresh approvals and further action in serious cases. The conditions will remain binding even if a project is transferred to a new owner.
