Pune, 17th October 2021: As there are reports of leopard spotting in the Ghat area of Sinhgad Fort, the forest department has urged tourists not to return late in the evening from the fort.

A resident of Gorhe Budruk village Sudhir Khirid informed the forest department that he had seen a leopard near Tanaji Malusare Garden on Saturday late evening. Khiri was returning from the fort along with two children on his bike. He informed the officials at the check post. After some time a few other tourists also informed the officials that they had seen a leopard.

Speaking about this Range forest officer of Bhamburda range forest Pradip Sankpal said, “We will check for the footmark of leopard on the places where tourists spotted the leopard. As a safety measure, we are also urging citizens to avoid returning late from the fort.”

Previously hyenas were spotted in the fort area. About a month ago, it was reported that a leopard was spotted in the Ambi area which is 15 to 20 km away from the fort, said Amba Latke, a forest official.
