Kondhwa, 22nd July 2023: In a significant move, the Kondhwa Police has issued a mandate to all property and flat owners in Kondhwa to have a tenancy agreement for every tenant in their societies. This decision, effective from July 17, 2023, aims to ensure the safety and security of residents by conducting thorough background checks on all tenants to prevent any involvement in illegal activities.

Recently, it was found that the two most wanted men by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) were residing in Mithanagar, Kondhwa. They are allegedly associated with an ISIS-inspired terror group in Madhya Pradesh.

Senior Police Inspector Santosh Sonawane, in-charge of Kondhwa Police Station, emphasized the importance of tenant verification, stating, “We are spreading awareness and making it a top priority to receive tenancy agreements for all tenants in Kondhwa. Our goal is to have complete knowledge of all residents in Kondhwa, leaving no room for any unknown or unverified tenants.”

The initiative follows the provisions of Section 24 of the Maharashtra Rent Act 1999, which legally obligates landlords to provide tenant details at the police station. Failure to comply with this requirement may lead to the registration of a case under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code against the landlord.

Kondhwa Police emphasizes that tenants should not be allowed to enter societies without proper police verification, as it poses a security risk. Society Chairpersons and Secretaries are responsible for conducting the verification process. Any unauthorized entry of tenants without police verification will lead to legal action against those responsible.

To ensure transparency and compliance, property owners must submit a copy of the online verification of the tenant to the police station. The police also remind landlords that demanding heavy deposits is not legally permissible under the Maharashtra Rent Act 1999.

In light of these guidelines, the Kondhwa Police Station calls upon all Kondhwa societies and house owners to strictly adhere to these regulations. They must submit copies of tenancy agreements to the police promptly whenever a new tenant is allowed in their societies. This proactive approach aims to enhance the safety and security of the people and create a harmonious living environment for all residents in Kondhwa.
