Pune: Ahead of Monsoon, PCMC Chief Inspects Ongoing Desilting Works, Orders Strict Action Against Encroachments Blocking Natural Water Flow
Pimpri Chinchwad, 13th June 2026: Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Commissioner Vijay Suryavanshi has directed officials to complete desilting of drains on priority and implement preventive measures to avoid waterlogging and flooding during the monsoon, while reviewing the civic body’s preparedness ahead of the rainy season.
During an inspection of various drains and river stretches across the city on Saturday, Suryavanshi assessed the progress of pre-monsoon works and instructed officials to ensure that all drain-cleaning activities are completed on priority. He stressed that low-lying areas should be closely monitored to prevent the accumulation of rainwater during heavy showers.
The commissioner also inspected the Mula riverbed in the Shikshak Colony-Pimple Nilakh area, where he reviewed the carrying capacity of the river and adjoining drains. He directed officials to identify locations vulnerable to flooding and undertake immediate preventive measures before the onset of intense rainfall.
Emphasising the need for coordinated action, Suryavanshi said all civic departments should remain on alert during the monsoon season and work in close coordination to minimise inconvenience to residents.
He further ordered strict action against encroachments obstructing the natural flow of drains and water channels, stating that such obstructions increase the risk of flooding during periods of heavy rain.
Additional Commissioner Kuldeep Jangam, Additional Commissioner Trupti Sandbhor, Deputy Commissioner Pradeep Thengal, regional officers and officials from the health, engineering and other departments accompanied the commissioner during the inspection.
According to the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), monsoon preparedness measures are being strengthened across the city, with public safety remaining the administration’s top priority.
