Pune Airport Rushes Life-Saving Organ to Mumbai in Special Flight

Viman Nagar, 10th August 2026: Pune Airport facilitated the swift transportation of a live human organ from Pune to Mumbai on Monday, with coordinated efforts by airport authorities, the airline, ground handling agency, security personnel and medical teams.
According to Pune Airport Director Santosh Dhoke, the organ was transported on a non-scheduled flight operated by Jhankar Aviation Pvt. Ltd. using aircraft VT-TIS. The flight was scheduled to depart from Pune at 4 pm and reach Mumbai at around 4:30 pm.
The organ was retrieved from Bharati Hospital in Pune and was being transported to Sir H. N. Reliance Foundation Hospital in Mumbai, where the recipient’s medical team was awaiting its arrival.
The organ was packed in a specially designed insulated ice box with a three-layer protective covering. It was preserved using a preservative solution along with ice gel packs and sterile ice.
The inner dimensions of the box were approximately 18 inches by 11 inches, while the outer dimensions were approximately 20 inches by 13 inches.
Given the critical nature of organ transplantation and the limited time available for transportation, Pune Airport coordinated closely with the airline, ground handling agency, security personnel and medical teams.
Airport authorities facilitated the movement of the medical team and the organ box to the aircraft while ensuring compliance with applicable aviation safety and security procedures.
The coordinated arrangements enabled the organ to be transported within the required time window, supporting the medical team in its efforts to save the recipient’s life.
