Pune Police Give Owners 15 Days to Claim 1,317 Abandoned Vehicles

Pune, 10th August 2026: The Pune City Traffic Police have asked vehicle owners and lawful claimants to come forward within 15 days to claim 1,317 unclaimed or abandoned vehicles impounded from public roads across the city.

The vehicles, including two-wheelers, three-wheelers and four-wheelers, had remained unattended for prolonged periods. According to the police, they were obstructing traffic, inconveniencing pedestrians and reducing the capacity of public roads.

The vehicles are currently kept at the police vehicle dumping yard in Samarth Nagar, Ramtekdi Industrial Area, Hadapsar.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Dr Sandeep Bhajibhakare issued the proclamation under the powers conferred by the Maharashtra Police Act, 1951.

Owners and lawful claimants have been advised to inspect the vehicles at the dumping yard. Those wishing to claim a vehicle must approach the police inspector or assistant police inspector of the traffic division that impounded it and submit an application along with documents proving ownership.

The police warned that vehicles not claimed within the stipulated 15-day period would be deemed to have vested in the state government in accordance with the Maharashtra Police Act. They would subsequently be disposed of through an auction.
