Pune Airport To Offer Metro Tickets On Arrival From January 2024
Viman Nagar, 30th October 2023: Starting January next year, travelers landing at Pune airport will have the convenience of purchasing Pune metro tickets right at the airport. Hemant Sonawane, the public relations officer of Maha Metro, has officially confirmed this development.
In addition to this, Maha Metro has initiated discussions with Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd. (PMPML) to facilitate bus services connecting the airport to the Ramwadi metro station. Passengers can seamlessly transition to a feeder bus at the airport, ensuring a smooth journey to their final destination.
The ongoing efforts to accelerate the construction of the four metro stations between Ruby Hall and Ramwadi were highlighted by Sonavane. He emphasized the continuous negotiations with PMPML to increase bus services, covering the 2km distance between Ramwadi and Lohegaon airport. Simultaneously, exploration of new operators for this service is also underway.
Aviation analyst Dhairyashil Vandekar has written to the Prime Minister, urging the extension of the metro line to Pune airport. He points out that defense authorities have contributed land for airport expansion, questioning why a similar provision cannot be made for metro extension.
This development harks back to 2019 when Ajay Kumar, then director of Pune airport, had formally requested metro authorities to extend their services to the airport. The current progress signifies a step forward in addressing the connectivity needs of air travelers in Pune.
