Pune Airport Witnesses Rapid Expansion With 11 New Flights, Enhancing Regional Connectivity
Pune: June has been an exceptional month for Pune Airport as it celebrates the commencement of operations for 11 new flights to various destinations. This ongoing expansion aims to fill vacant slots in the summer schedule, providing travelers with more options and improving regional connectivity.
To compensate for the suspension of services by another carrier, the new flight schedule introduces connections to Delhi, Nagpur, Jodhpur, Ahmedabad, and Bengaluru. An airport official stated, “The introduction of these new destinations has undoubtedly provided relief for our passengers, as the suspended carrier used to operate around seven flights to Delhi, Bengaluru, and Nagpur from Pune.”
The expansion plans go beyond these additions. The first week of July will witness the introduction of two more routes to Rajkot and Vadodara. In addition, a new service will begin to Hyderabad in the upcoming month, and it will be followed by a flight to Goa from the Manohar International Airport located in North Goa. It is worth mentioning that Pune already maintains a flight connection to South Goa’s Dabolim airport.
Currently, the airport witnesses a daily range of 89 to 92 flight movements, translating to approximately 178 to 184 arrivals and departures each day. “Despite a relatively slow start to the summer schedule, June has proven to be quite fruitful, particularly after the addition of two new flights to Mumbai and Varanasi,” added the official.
However, the increased number of flights calls for improved management. Concerns have been raised regarding long check-in queues, confusion at boarding gates, limited seating space, and other challenges associated with the surge in flights. To address these issues, authorities have announced plans for a new terminal building, expected to open by the end of the summer schedule. The new terminal aims to alleviate overcrowding problems and enhance the overall passenger experience.
