Narhe, 31st December 2021: Three policemen of Pune city police today averted a mishap near Navale bridge by nabbing a truck driver who was driving dangerously allegedly under influence of alcohol.

Recently many people have been killed in accidents near the bridge.

The incident took place around 7 pm on the Pune-Bengaluru highway on the lane going towards Warje.

“The milk truck was moving in a zig-zag manner and would have hit public on road. Three traffic policemen did a commendable job by chasing this truck for over 500 meters and finally caught the driver with the help of passersby and saved many lives”, said a witness.

The traffic police personnel who caught the truck driver are Aniket Jamdade, Umesh Phalse and Umesh Tikone.

Police Naik Umesh Tikole and Umesh Phalse saw the speeding truck near the newly constructed tunnel in Katraj. The truck was approaching Pune at high speed on the Mumbai lane. The policemen immediately informed constable Jamdade of Sinhagad road traffic division who was on duty at the next traffic division.

After receiving this information he immediately rushed towards the truck for 500 metres under the Vadgaon bridge near Vishwaas hotel.

“I came running towards the vehicle from the opposite side of the traffic and stopped all the vehicles on the highway”, said Jamdade.

“By stopping the traffic, the truck driver couldn’t move ahead. The other policemen arrived immediately and nabbed the driver for rash driving”, he added.

The driver has been detained under suspicion of being under influence of alcohol and driving in a rash manner on the highway.

“After the medical examinations, the necessary actions will be taken for the same. Fortunately, no one got harmed and a big accident got averted,” he said.
