Pune, 2nd February 2023: Regional Transport Office (RTO) Pune has implemented a fare hike for three-seater auto rickshaws in Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, and Baramati areas from 1st September 2022, as per the recommendation of the Khatua Committee. Action will now be taken against the autorickshaw drivers and owners who do not re-certify the rickshaw meters despite the extension of time.

Considering the demand made by the rickshaw owners for re-certification of their rickshaw fare meter and meter inspection work, as well as the request from rickshaw associations for an extension of time for re-certification of meters to avoid inconvenience to rickshaw license holders, an extension of time for re-certification of meters from 1st November to 30th November and then from 1st December 2022 to 31st January 2023, as given by the RTO.

The rickshaw drivers who do not get the meter calibrated within this period will be subject to license suspension or compromise charges. Failure to calibrate the meter shall result in a minimum delay of seven days and one day for every day beyond the expiry of the period and the total maximum suspension period shall be 40 days.

The work of meter inspection will continue at Phulenagar and Alandi road test grounds.

Pune city and Pimpri-Chinchwad, as well as the district, have more than 1.20 lakh rickshaws. It is administratively estimated that the meter calibration work of about 60 per cent of the rickshaws has been completed. Therefore, around 50,000 rickshaw drivers have now come under the radar of action.
