Camp, 14th March 2023: The Army Southern Command Headquarters, in collaboration with the 214-Pune Cantonment Vidhan Sabha Constituency Electoral Registration Officer, held a successful ‘Voter Mela’ event aimed at registering army officers, Jawans, and their families as voters.

The event aimed to register new voters among army officers and Jawans who have recently migrated or been transferred to Pune.

According to Deputy Collector and Voter Registration Officer Siddharth Bhandare, army officers and Jawans stationed at various locations for national duty have often been unable to exercise their right to vote due to non-enrollment in the electoral roll, migration, and transfer. The program was organized under the Short Voter List Reorganization Campaign, in accordance with the instructions of the Election Commission of India.

Major General Tarandeep Singh Bains of the Southern Command registered as a voter with his family members, supported and guided by Major General Yogesh Chaudhary and Brigadier Kutty. Sudhir Lipare, Ravindra Phatare, Balasaheb Chavan, among others, helped with the registration process on behalf of the Collectorate.

The Voter Mela received an enthusiastic response from the army officers, personnel, and their families. The initiative aims to ensure that all army personnel stationed in Pune have their names on the voter list and exercise their right to vote in the upcoming elections. The next month, the District Collector, Dr. Rajesh Deshmukh, will oversee the registration process.
