Pune, 22nd June 2023: In a significant development in the Darshana Pawar murder case, the prime suspect, Rahul Handore, has been arrested. Handore was nabbed in Mumbai by the Pune Rural Police, four days after the crime took place.

According to officials, it is suspected that Rahul Handore committed the murder due to the rejection of his marriage proposal by Darshana Pawar. Handore had expressed his desire to marry Darshana, but her family decided to arrange her marriage with another individual after she cleared the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) examination.

Despite Handore’s request for more time, the family declined his appeal.

The lifeless body of Darshana Pawar, who achieved the third rank in the examination, was discovered at the base of Rajgad fort. The post-mortem examination revealed signs of injuries, confirming that she was murdered.

On June 12, Darshana Pawar and Rahul Handore had gone for a walk in the vicinity of Rajgad Fort. They had entered the area on a motorcycle. CCTV footage from a nearby hotel captured Rahul descending from the Fort alone around 10 am. Since then, he had been missing.

Authorities were uncertain about Rahul Handore’s whereabouts until recent developments shed light on his movements. Police Inspector Datta Bagwe from Warje Police Station reported that the last known location of the missing suspect was Katraj. However, he vanished two days after being spotted there.

Subsequently, money was withdrawn from Rahul Handore’s ATM card in New Delhi, two days after his disappearance from Pune. Late on Sunday night, he had a phone conversation with one of his relatives, during which he mentioned leaving Pune after an argument with a friend. He abruptly ended the call without providing further details. When his phone’s location was traced, it was found to be in Kolkata.

The arrest of Rahul Handore brings a major breakthrough in the investigation of Darshana Pawar’s tragic murder.

According to Ankit Goyal, Superintendent of Police (Pune rural), Handore and Darshana knew each other since their childhood. Handore’s house is located near her maternal uncle’s house. He was also preparing for MPSC and currently worked with a food delivery service company.
