Pune: Art Teachers Sexually Assaults Student, Case Registered Under POCSO
Pune, 24th November 2022: An art instructor who sexually assaulted a 16-year-old student in her class has been detained by the Chatushrungi police. The girl’s parents reportedly filed a complaint after learning about the event a week later, according to the police. Only after her parents claimed that they knew what had happened to her because she was skipping art classes did the girl recount her ordeal.
According to police, the girl was alone with the 49-year-old teacher, when the incident occurred last week, and he touched her. She first assumed it was an accident. But the next day, when he discovered her alone once more, he closed the door to the classroom, showed her a pornographic video, and attempted to have an intimate conversation with her. The girl became frightened and nearly withdrew into herself.
To understand her behaviour at home, the parents had reached their breaking point. She also had a temperature, which made them more anxious. The youngster sobbed and recounted the entire episode when they spoke to her. They approached Muskan, an NGO that assists people in such situations, after the horrifying reality came to light.
The mother said her daughter had been attending the art workshop for one and a half years in her police complaint. She learned sketches from the accused. Her granddad used to go with her to the studio earlier. But she would travel there by herself after his passing two months ago. The defendant was aware that the girl was alone at home and nobody would accompany her to the studio.
A case has been registered under IPC section 354 and the POCSO Act, and the accused has been arrested.
