Pune: Aryan Anand Wins Amateur Golf Championship Title On Unprecedented 37th Play-Off Hole

Pune, 13th December 2021: Bangalore golfer Aryan Roopa Anand scored a stunning win to grab the 120th Amateur golf Championship of India as he defeated Yuvraj Singh 3&2 on the unprecedented 37th Play-off hole, in the 6-day tournament played in mixed stroke-play and match-play format at the Poona club golf course, with the final held on Sunday.

51 players started on Tuesday in stroke-play format. the field was cut to 32, who then played in the match-play format till two remained in the field.

The eventual winner Aryan defeated the seasoned amateur from Noida Simarjeet Singh 4&2 in the round of 16. Yuvraj meanwhile scored 3&2 win over Aaron Rockey to make it to the quarterfinals.

Aryan made it to the semi-final’s beating Pranav Mardikar on the 19th hole.

The final couldn’t have been more exciting. Having slogged for six days through different formats and cold weather, the two stayed in tow of each other. till the final 18th hole, before the final was forced into play-off holes. Aryan and Yuvraj went on to play the whole course yet again to break the ice.
