Pune-Aurangabad ST Buses Had Sambhajinagar Display Board

Pune, January 8, 2021: Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) has plunged into the burning issue of renaming of Aurangabad to Sambhajinagar. As part of their agitation, MNS members changed the display boards of 15 buses at Shirur bus station on January 6. These buses going towards Aurangabad from Pune.

The entire place was rant with slogans like Aurangabadche Sambhajinagar zalech pahije (Aurangabad must be renamed as Sambhajinagar).

The re-naming issue is taking grounds across the state and suddenly the MNS chief Raj Thackeray plunged into the issue and showed his support. Shirur is the central point between Pune and Marathwada and almost all the State Transport buses halt here.

MNS members hoisted their party flag during their agitation. Sushant Kunte, Ravindra Gulade, Vijay alias Lal Jagdhane, Lalit Gugale, Sahil Kate, Prashant Thube, Kamlesh Darekar, Adesh Lalbige participated during the agitation.

History behind it

Aurangabad was built by Malik Ambar but it was renamed by Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb. He made the city his capital during his rule. However, he tortured and killed Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, who was the son of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

Shiv Sena chief Balasaheb Thackeray who expanded Shiv Sena beyond Mumbai came to power in Aurangabad in the local body elections. During a speech after the victory, Balasaheb had said that the city will be named after Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. This happened in the 1980s.
