Pune: Woman Gives Life To Five People By Organ Donation
Pune, January 8, 2021: A 47-year-old woman who had a brain hemorrhage donated her organs thereby saving five lives. The woman who later died, however, gave life to five patients three from Pune and two from Hyderabad.
The woman was admitted at a private hospital when she had blood clotting in her brain. She slipped into a coma. The doctors tried their best to revive her, but she could not respond to the treatment. Later, the doctor declared her dead.
“The medical staff of the hospital told the husband of the woman about organ donation. The husband and other family members responded positively”, said coordinator, Pune Zonal Transplant Coordination Committee Aarti Gokhale.
The woman’s both the kidneys, heart, liver and lungs were donated. The transplant was done on the patients from Sahyadri Hospital while the heart and lungs were sent to Hyderabad. One kidney was transplanted to a patient at Pune while another to a patient at Nashik.
Pune region and organ donations
Pune ranks in the top chart when it comes to organ donation. However, in the year 2020, it saw just 21 donations as against 63 in 2019. Pune region includes Satara, Sangli, Kolhapur, Solapur, Dhule, Jalgaon and Nashik.
