Pune Authorities Demolish Over 3,500 Unauthorized Structures in Three-Phase Operation

Pune, 19th March 2025: To alleviate traffic congestion, the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), along with other government agencies, has launched a special campaign to remove unauthorized constructions along national and state highways surrounding Pune. The operation, conducted in three phases, has resulted in the demolition of over 3,510 unauthorized structures, clearing approximately 3.47 Lakh Square Feet of encroached land.
The campaign involved the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Maharashtra Public Works Department (PWD), Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), and Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC). In the first phase, which took place from 29th January to 13th February, 822 actions were taken to clear 82,200 square feet of unauthorized constructions along Pune Nagar Highway. The second phase, conducted from 3rd March to 13th March, targeted Pune-Nashik Highway, Pune-Solapur Highway, and Chandani Chowk-Paud Road, resulting in the removal of 2,478 unauthorized structures covering 2.47 lakh square feet.
The third phase, initiated on 17th March and set to continue until 30th March, has already seen the demolition of 210 unauthorized structures between Hadapsar and Dive Ghat, as well as Mumbai Bengaluru Highway, freeing up 34,500 square feet of road space. This comprehensive effort aims to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion in the region.
