Pune, September 30, 2020: Donning a Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) kit, Prabhu Banshetty, an auto-rickshaw driver of Pune, ferries his customers in the wake of the Coronavirus disease (COVID19) pandemic.

The auto driver is setting an example for others by wearing a PPE suit and giving hand sanitizers to his customers to protect himself and the customer from the adverse effect of the lethal virus. “Since the outbreak began, I started wearing the kit because this is for my safety,” said Prabhu.

When asked about silly comments made by people, he said, “It doesn’t matter what people say, whether it’s good or bad I really don’t care! This is about my safety. Some people do comment and make fun of me, but I have stopped caring”.

However, police officials and college-going students have appreciated his unique avatar. “Some students click pictures with me, click photos of my autorickshaw as well. Besides, policemen also appreciate my safety concern”, he added.

Pune’s weather has turned from heavy showers to dry heat. Yet, this doesn’t stop Prabhu from wearing the PPE suit. “No matter how hot it is, I don’t stop wearing the suit because this is like an extra layer of skin for me now. Besides, I also drink boiled water because safety is my utmost concern,” he asserted.

Meanwhile, Prabhu has also set up a transparent screen to separate him from the passengers to provide an extra layer of protection.

Prabhu further said, “As soon as I am home, I remove my suit, sanitize it, and make it ready for the next day”.
