Camp, January 8, 2021: Maharashtra Cosmopolitan Education Society’s Abeda Inamdar Senior College of Arts, Science and Commerce has now another feather in its cap. The college has been conferred ‘autonomous’ status by the University Grants Commission (UGC) for a period of 10 years. The college received a letter about autonomy from UGC. It is now First Minority College of the country with autonomy.

“It is a proud moment for us. It has enabled us to expand our academic vision and reach maximum students,” said Dr PA Inamdar, president, Maharashtra Cosmopolitan Education Society.

The college can now independently form syllabus, collaborate with foreign universities, conduct examination and formulate course fees. “Currently our courses offered to rural and urban students are balanced and defined. Now we can formulate the course as per their requirements,” said Dr Inamdar.

“We are not focusing on fees of the course. We will aim to provide courses in reasonable fees so that maximum students can receive it,” he added.

Abeda Inamdar, vice president, Maharashtra Cosmopolitan Education Society said, “It is a great moment. The college was founded in 1988 for girls’ education without any grants. Two generations of girls received quality education here. We believe that education changes the entire scenario at home and in society at large. Now we have the freedom to design courses that are need of time.”

Dr Shaila Bootwala, principal, Abeda Inamdar Senior College said, “We are very happy to know that Abeda Inamdar Senior College has been conferred the autonomous status by the UGC. Ours is an A grade college. The college strength is 5,500 students.”

The Abeda Inamdar Senior College has consistently featured in the list of best 5 Colleges of Pune City. The staff is very excited about the autonomous status and we take it as an opportunity to excel and to further improve the academic standing of the College. We look forward to offering a wide variety of subjects to our students, to enable their development in a myriad of ways”, she added.
