Pune: Balewadi Celebrates Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti with Lecture, Awards and Cultural Events
Balewadi, 21st February 2026: The Balewadi Welfare Federation organised a grand celebration of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti in Balewadi, drawing enthusiastic participation from residents and community members. The event combined historical reflection, cultural activities, and civic engagement, highlighting the enduring legacy of the Maratha king as a visionary leader and protector of the people.
The highlight of the programme was a lecture by Shivcharitra scholar Purushottam Aware Patil on the theme “Shivray – Truth and Misconceptions.” Addressing the audience, he said Shivaji Maharaj was not merely a monarch but a ruler devoted to public welfare, citing his initiatives in land reforms, naval strength, fair compensation for soldiers, respect for women, and inclusive governance.
Chief guest Suhas Patwardhan, President of the Maharashtra Housing Societies and Apartment Federation, praised the organisers for promoting cultural awareness and said such programmes help strengthen social harmony, unity, and civic responsibility.
As part of its annual tradition, the federation presented Citizens Awards to individuals for outstanding social contributions. Prasad Narayan was honoured for his work in education, while Kiran Sangit Gudde was recognised for contributions to education, healthcare, environmental initiatives, and women’s empowerment.
To encourage youth participation, a student painting competition on the life and legacy of Shivaji Maharaj was organised, receiving an overwhelming response from schools in the Baner–Balewadi area. Winners were awarded prizes and all participants received certificates. The competition was coordinated by Shubhangi Chapate.
Residents attended the event in large numbers, creating an atmosphere marked by pride and unity as they paid tribute to the historic leader and his ideals of courage, justice, and welfare.
The programme was anchored by Mrinal Gaikwad, with welcome remarks by Manas Sharma and an introduction by Ashish Kotamkar. Organisers said the event’s success was made possible through the coordinated efforts of volunteers and members.
The federation stated it remains committed to promoting cultural heritage while fostering civic awareness and community bonding, adding that the Shiv Jayanti celebration reflects its vision of building an inclusive and socially conscious neighbourhood in Pune.
