Pune: Bangladeshi Woman Detained In Dehu Road For Illegal Stay; 26 Deported From PCMC Since May 2025
Pimpri Chinchwad, 19th September 2026: The Pimpri Chinchwad Anti-Terrorism Branch (ATB) has identified 29 Bangladeshi nationals allegedly staying illegally in the city since May 2025, of whom 26 have been deported to Bangladesh, police said.
On Thursday, the ATB detained another Bangladeshi woman from a lodge in the Dehu Road area. Police have initiated the process to deport her along with two other Bangladeshi nationals, according to deputy commissioner of police (Special Branch) Dheeraj Patil.
Acting on information that a Bangladeshi woman was staying illegally at Swarg Lodge in Dehu Road, the ATB conducted a search and detained her. During questioning, she identified herself as Tanha Khatun and produced documents that police found to be fake.
Further inquiry revealed that her actual name was Fiha Mohammed Mujibur Rahman, 19, a resident of Boyra in Jamalpur district of Bangladesh, police said. She had allegedly entered India illegally around a year ago and was in contact with her parents in Bangladesh through IMO and WhatsApp.
Police have started the process of deporting her to Bangladesh.
Patil said the Pimpri Chinchwad police had identified 29 Bangladeshi nationals allegedly residing illegally in the city since May 2025. Of these, 26 have already been deported, while the process of sending the remaining three back to Bangladesh is underway.
The action follows a policy announced by the Union home ministry in May 2025 for dealing with foreign nationals found staying illegally in India. Under the policy, such persons can be deported directly instead of facing criminal proceedings, police said.
Officials said filing cases against such foreign nationals often delays their deportation due to the judicial process. There had also been instances of Bangladeshi nationals being released on bail and subsequently going missing, prompting authorities to focus on direct deportation, police said.
